How We Screen Candidates Personal Competencies Our Mission

We use an established, reliable personality assessment tool to help us assess each candidate’s personal competencies or soft skills.

Personal competencies (soft skills) are critical for executive success. Executive search consultants attempt to assess these types of skills with behavioral interviews. At Edwards Executive Search, we believe that is not good enough.

While we also conduct behavioral interviews with candidates, we also use the well regarded Hogan® on-line assessments to help us assess our candidate’s personal competencies.

Personality measures are proven, useful predictors of job performance. The Hogan® Personality Inventory (HPI) assesses candidates on seven well known characteristics (and forty one sub-characteristics) that influence occupational success.

These characteristics include:

  • Adjustment- Response to Pressure, Level of Confidence
  • Ambition- Leadership, Achievement Orientation
  • Sociability- Team Orientation, Communication Skills
  • Interpersonal Sensitivity- People Skills, Degree of Empathy
  • Prudence- Dependability, Conscientiousness
  • Inquisitive- Intellectually Curiosity, Innovation
  • Learning Approach- Up to Date, Technology SavvyPuzzle Peice

We then use our Matrix Assessment™ evaluation format to compare each candidate to the specific personal competencies desired by our client companies.
